The rise of centralized control has also enabled a surge in bad actors. From token launches designed for quick profit extraction to collusion among major players, the crypto space is increasingly resembling traditional finance, rather than an open system of decentralized collaboration.

Examples include:

  • Exchange-Run Layer 2s: Certain exchanges operate their own L2s, giving them even more control over Ethereum’s transaction flow.

  • Insider Trading: Whales and insiders often manipulate token prices, making it difficult for regular users to participate fairly.

  • Ponzi-Like Projects: Many so-called decentralized projects are little more than sophisticated exit scams.
